Andres ‘Oz’ Ospina was born in Colombia, South America but moved with his family to the US when he was young. Since then life has been quite the adventure. Oz always brings passion and humor to everything he does so there is never a dull moment in class or around the fire.
Oz grew up in Ohio where he learned early on that the woods was where things made sense to him. There was hardly a time you couldn’t find him in the woods. When the time to grow up came, he decided to become a Marine so he could stay in the woods. Sadly that wasn’t always the case. During that time though he earned a seat and graduated from the Marine Corps. highly coveted Scout Sniper School. Eventually becoming a Team Leader and and completing two combat deployments. He also served as an Instructor at the High Risk Personnel School in Quantico, VA. the premier defensive shooting school in the DOD at the time.
After 8 years of service Oz left the Corps. and went on to work for multiple Private Contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Years of living at a pace that was was unsustainable led Oz to make the decision to stop deploying and move to Arizona. Eventually moving to Northern Arizona and living completely Off Grid for 10 years. Those years helped shape and teach him. In Northern Arizona he fell back in love with being on the land and exploring new places and learning new skills along the way. That passion for the outdoors and adventure eventually led him to the doorstep of Jack Mountain Bushcraft and Guide School where he is an Instructor for our Long Term Semester Courses. Oz loves Instructing, learning and developing new ways of challenging our students.
Passion and intensity are some of the things he brings to our school and he loves nothing more then to inspire the same in those around him.
Oz is a father of 4. He now lives in Tiffin, Ohio with his wife and 2 youngest sons.
